Stephen Poliakoff was born on December 1, 1952 in Holland Park, Kensington, London, England. He is a writer and director, known for 闭上我的眼睛 (1991), Perfect Strangers (2001) and Dancing on the Edge (2013). He has been married to 桑迪·维尔奇 since 1983. They have two children.

Carries a plastic drinking straw that he always fidgets with, initially as a cigarette substitute, but is now an incessant habit.

He was awarded the C.B.E. (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2007 Queen's Birthday Honors List for his services to drama.
